Plenitud Vermont

We’re thrilled to announce a new chapter in Plenitud’s journey: Plenitud Vermont!

Thanks to a legacy donation, we’ve been able to purchase an historic 101-acre property in rural Vermont. This satellite campus will expand our mission of service, sustainability, and community into a new context, while continuing the strong foundation of Plenitud PR.

Why Plenitud VT?

For years, our community has asked for ways to connect with Plenitud beyond Puerto Rico. Many of our partner colleges and universities are based in the northeastern U.S., and Vermont gives us a natural bridge to deepen those relationships.

Also, Vermont is known to be a “climate haven” setting that complements Puerto Rico’s tropical environment. Together, the two campuses will demonstrate two models of sustainability and intentional community in distinct climates zones where similar principles are being applied, offering a depth of demonstration and understanding that can accelerate the learning process, and provide complementary opportunities for visitors, workshop participants, team members and more.

Our Vision

Plenitud VT will be:

  • A hub for academic service-learning with partner universities.

  • A living example of permaculture principles in a new climate.

  • A place for volunteers, interns, and visitors to experience community life.

  • An example of healthier and more harmonious living based on service, sustainability, and community

Plenitud VT is in its pioneering phase—and your support can make all the difference.

Whether you can give once or become a monthly supporter, you’ll be planting the seeds of a project that will grow for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We heard from supporters eager to see our work stateside. One of Plenitud PR’s oldest initiatives is our Academic / Service Learning program, where students from all over the United States come for week-long experiential trips to learn about principles of permaculture and community service. These immersive experiences can be transformative for students who attend them, and they often want to stay involved with us after their visit! Plenitud VT allows us to continue building the relationships with these students, as well as serve more people, strengthen academic partnerships, and expand our educational impact.

  • Vermont offers resilience, a supportive community, and contrasts that highlight how permaculture principles adapt across climates. This reflects the principles of permaculture, the design approach we employ, which is based on a set of flexible principles rather than rigid, context-specific rules. Our goal is to simply respond to calls for service wherever we are, and empower others to do the same in their own contexts.

  • Plenitud PR remains our home base and continues full operations. Plenitud VT complements, not replaces, our work in Puerto Rico.

  • A legacy donation and a local bank loan secured the property. Future growth relies on donations, grants, and partnerships opportunities for both one-time and monthly donors to support project funding.

  • Right now we are in the pioneering and visioning phase of this project. Some of our primary objectives in this early phase include: onboarding vehicles and farming equipment, renovating the existing barn, and developing infrastructure and housing for guests, staff, and interns.  The upfront investments that are needed for these initial steps are extensive, but in many cases they are one-time-only investments that will give this project a dramatic boost during this early stage. All support is welcome, including financial support as well as skills, knowledge, time, or in-kind donations. Make a donation to the project here.

  • Both campuses share Plenitud’s core values—sustainability, service, and community—while each evolves its own unique programs.
