Our Community Partners

Plenitud PR was born out of relationships and has continued to grow and have bigger impacts because of our emphasis on collaborative relationships. These are our main community partners:


Alelí Environmental is dedicated to creating educational programs in Puerto Rico to transform the minds of locals and visitors, and promote more environmentally conscious lifestyles for a healthier environment. Alelí Environmental’s partnership with us is strengthening the impact of our Children and Youth program in local partnership schools in the region.

 

Ama Pachana is a business run by Samantha López and Omar Torres Calvo, with whom we collaborate to support our health and wellness programs. Together we host workshops and train a group of mentees and local food business owners on plant-based eating, as well as offering a mentorship program to assure members are able to translate the learning into their practice. In addition, Ama Panchana gave a series of mentorship trainings to staff members in order to support their process in effectively teaching and training individuals in the area of health and wellness.

 

AmeriCorps members bring passion and perseverance where the need is greatest: to organizations that help eradicate poverty. AmeriCorps members serve as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to meet our nation’s most pressing challenges and advance local solutions. Our partnership with AmeriCorps began in 2018, and we now work with both the VISTA and STATE programs. 

 

Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico, The Food Bank of Puerto Rico, is a non-profit organization that focuses on alleviating hunger, improving nutrition and the quality of life of Puerto Rico’s most vulnerable citizens. Aligning their mission with that of our Senior Care program, in 2021 Banco de Alimentos awarded us a grant that allowed us to consistently deliver meals and produce boxes to our local elders, and offer agroecological and nutrition workshops to children and other community members.

 

Our Bioconstruction team has received training from Cal-Earth, a leading bioconstruction non-profit located in California, and has established a strong partnership since 2010. Cal-Earth will provide virtual training for Community Resiliency and Bioconstruction Summer Associates and an official training certification for those who successfully complete the program. They will also share the impact of the program with their audiences.

 

The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing awareness of the extraordinary impact that food has on the health of our bodies, our communities, and our planet. In 2021, we were a recipient of CNS’s Community Grants initiative and were able to design and offer our first course on plant-based nutrition, cooking, and wellness practices to local community members.

 

ConPRmetidos is committed to the island’s recovery over the long run, and believes that true sustainable recovery - that creates permanent change - takes time. In 2020, ConPRmetidos awarded us with an IdeaAcción grant, which will help us develop a staff/guest housing facility at our farm with capacity for up to 10 people. This project will provide opportunities for more people to participate in our educational offerings and will expand our potential to provide more intensive sustainability training for Puerto Rican residents and visitors to the island.

 

Departamento de Familia, the Department of Families, supports our Children & Youth program by collaborating with our partner schools, helping to design extracurricular activities both at our farm and at La Cancha Sana, our local community center in Las Marías.

 

Students and faculty from Drexel University are working in partnership with us to develop and implement initiatives related to resilience education access in communities in Puerto Rico and Latinx communities in Philadelphia. Through virtual workshop series and week-long academic trips, we teach their community-based agricultural model to students and Philadelphia-based diaspora permaculture farms.

 

El Josco Bravo is a family farm in the mountains of Toa Alta, and they believe that agroecology is the only philosophy of production that will achieve world food sovereignty in response to the agricultural, environmental and social crisis of the planet. We established an alliance with El Josco Bravo to join forces in the mission of agroecological education, being part of its recognized Course of Farmers and Agroecological Promoters since 2020.

 

The Luis Muñoz Marín School is a public high school located in Añasco, Puerto Rico. In our partnership with this school, we carry out monthly extracurricular activities with functional and intellectual diversity groups, practicing agroecology, art and psycho-emotional development.

 

The Raúl Ybarra School is a public elementary and intermediate school located in Maricao, Puerto Rico. In our partnership with the school, we carry out weekly activities related to agroecology, art and mental health. 

 

The Dr. Silverio Medina Gaud School is a public elementary school located in Las Marías, Puerto Rico. In our partnership with the school, we carry out weekly activities related to agroecology, art and mental health.

 

Located in Las Marías, Finca Agroecològica Bohiti is an agroecological farm that grows a variety of different crops, grows and processes their own chocolate and coffee, and offers agroecological tours. Since 2021, Finca Bohití has been selling their produce with us through Productos Agroecológicos, and we are co-building a sustainable business model for small farming cooperatives. 

 

We have been awarded three grants from FIDA to develop our educational youth programs in which we train students from public schools on farm to table ideas, agro-ecological growing techniques, sustainability, and more. Their support has also enabled us to publish our educational manual, ¡Siembra Boricua!

 

The Ford Foundation supports our incubator program by finding funding resources for other small farmers in the community. This has allowed us to train multiple individuals who now have more technical and material resources to launch their own farm businesses.

 

Fundación Angel Ramos promotes changes in the social and economic situation of the children and youth of Puerto Rico, so that they develop the maximum of their abilities without being limited by their environment. The foundation has collaborated with our Children and Youth program since 2021, allowing us to host additional activities for the students, expand our curriculum, and offer fair wages for our school educators. We were also recognized as a finalist for the foundation’s prestigious award, El Premio Tina Hills, in 2022 for our service with the children in our partner schools.

 

Fundación Banco Popular seeks to improve the quality of life of Puerto Ricans by providing financial support and resources to community organizations that promote access to educational and self-management opportunities. Since 2019, Fundación Banco Popular has been a consistent collaborator with us, supporting with funding to oversee long-term strategic planning and growth opportunities for the organization. 

 

The Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico (FCPR) is one of the first and only community foundations on the island. The FCPR is dedicated to developing the capacities of communities in Puerto Rico to achieve their own social and economic transformation in a sustainable enduring manner. We have collaborated with the FCPR on several projects including the installation of rainwater harvesting systems in households and community centers to increase the resiliency of these rural communities and reduce the impacts & risks of flooding.

 

The Hispanic Federation is the nation’s premier Latino nonprofit membership organization with its mission to empower and advance the Hispanic community. After Hurricane María, HF partnered with us to help rebuild the island in a sustainable way. Together, we are able to host Superadobe workshops, bamboo building workshops, and install rainwater harvesting systems for the community.

 

As a lifestyle brand dedicated to promoting the rich heritage and rural culture of Puerto Rico, Jíbaro donates a percentage of its profits to advance our mission. Check out their online store to buy some of their beautiful merchandise.

 

Money House is a private company based in San Juan, PR that sponsored the installation of rainwater harvesting systems at the homes of underserved elderly members of the community. Money House also donated money toward the building of La Cancha Sana, our local community center.

 

We have partnered with the Municipality of Las Marías throughout several years, and more so since the passing of Hurricane María. We teamed up to provide relief efforts for various parts of Las Marías and distribute supplies among community partners. The collaboration with the local government culminated in coordinating the first “Festival de La Plenitud Boricua,” the first festival of sustainability in town to educate people and lift their spirits after the storm.

 

Oriental bank has partnered with Plenitud PR over the last few years to support bioconstruction and agriculture efforts at our farm and La Cancha Sana, our local community center in Las Marías.

 

Para la Naturaleza has dedicated over forty-three years working together with other organizations for the protection of nature in our islands, and has supported us with funding for our publication “¡Siembra Boricua!: Manual de agricultura en armonía con la naturaleza.”

 

The Peter Alfond Foundation is committed to providing financial support and resources to organizations that are creating innovative educational and wellness opportunities that strengthen communities directly. We began collaborating in 2022, with a shared vision of growing our Agriculture program to offer more accessible produce to our communities' most vulnerable members.

 

The Rotary Club of San Juan is a service organization with the purpose to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. The Rotary Club is a supporter of La Cancha Sana, our local community center. They donated funds to purchase new equipment in the space, and aim to support more local projects throughout Puerto Rico.

 

Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) grants and outreach program. The goal of SARE is to support sustainable agriculture production and marketing practices. They are partnering with Plenitud PR to help us provide internships, workshops, mentorships and outreach educational materials in agroecology and permaculture.

 

Triple-S promotes strategic collaboration with external organizations, including non-profit organizations that address the needs of vulnerable populations and promote health equity in two social determinants of health: food insufficiency and emotional wellbeing. We began our partnership with the foundation in 2022, expanding our Senior Care program to visit the elderly more frequently and offering a 4-month course in healthy eating and wellness to the community.

 

Plenitud and UPR-Mayagüez have been successfully working together for years to provide students with internships, summer practices, and coop programs at our teaching center. The primary focus of collaborations includes educational opportunities in ecological agriculture, bioconstruction, Permaculture design, and education.

 

In 2019, Plenitud PR received support from World Central Kitchen through the Plow To Plate program, which aims to increase food security in Puerto Rico by providing funding, training, and networking opportunities to smallholder farmers and businesses that support local agriculture. With this funding, we built a warehouse for processing our commercial agriculture production. WCK also supported our Senior Care program at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
