Susie Charlop | Vice President

Susie first came to Plenitud as a sophomore in college with the George Washington University's Alternative Winter Breaks program and quickly fell in love with the Plenitud community. Plenitud affected her so much so that she returned to the farm as an Alternative Breaks trip leader during her junior and senior years, and now serves on the Board. Susie is passionate about increasing social justice and improving the criminal justice system. She currently works at the Prisoner Reentry Institute at John Jay College, where she helps to support and build the capacity of student initiatives aimed at improving education in correctional facilities. She also loves to run for miles outside and dance and listen attentively.

Yashira Santos - agradecimientos.jpg

Yashira Santos | Secretary

Yashira first visited Plenitud to be part of the team of biobuilders for building the first Superadobe structure on the farm. She automatically felt that she began growing not only as a biobuilder and a permaculture practitioner but also spiritually. She always felt like home at Plenitud, always like she was with family. Ever since she has been part of Plenitud and found a place in our hearts. Yashira’s favorite place is every river. She works in a structural bamboo farm & educational project (Bambú Pueblo) on the weekends, and during the week as an engineer & surveyor for road construction & repairs projects after hurricane Maria. She is the only woman inspector on the team! She loves gardening, dancing, and exploring the forests and waterfalls of Puerto Rico.

Katharine Elizabeth Brown | Tresurer

Katie has been involved with Plenitud as a volunteer since 2009. Katie has a BA in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina and a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She works from home in Durham, NC, where she enjoys being with her husband and daughter, as well as hiking, gardening, cooking delicious food, and playing music.

Anna Parsons | Officer

In 1998 Paula Paoli joined Anna’s family in Tampa, FL as a cultural exchange student/big sister/daughter and seeds were planted.  Paula left for the University of Florida 2 years later, where the roots of Plenitud began to grow. Anna kept practicing & teaching gynecology & developed sonohysterography,  a gentle safe way to perfect an accurate image of distressed uteri. She retired as a professor emeritus from University of South Florida medical School in 2014, and continues to work in free Clinics around Tampa.

The dormant seeds joyfully sprouted in 2015 when Anna & Paula reconnected. Paula introduced both Owen and the story of Plenitud while reworking Anna’s kitchen garden one afternoon. Anna was inspired by all three! Her fandom grew when Hurricane Maria vividly confirmed the importance & effectiveness of Plenitud’s sustainable farming, water harvesting and biobuilding techniques, increasingly used to support the Las Marias community. Three generations of Parsons felt the tenacious spirit of unforced love and saw the fruits of its practical applications when they visited Plenitud as 2019 began.  Anna is very very pleased to join the Board of Directors.
